How big should my coop be?

This is the most popular question when it comes to purchasing or building a coop. There are a few things you would need to consider and ask yourself (and those who may be involved in deciding on the flock):

How many chickens would you like to have in your coop?

Do you think you'll want to add more chickens in the future?

We recommend that you give your birds 2-3 square feet of floor space per bird, meaning if you have a 4x4 coop like our Bella Coop (Plans)  you would be able to fit 6 chickens comfortably in that space. By calculating yourself or by a square footage calculator, you can enter the width and length of your coop (or coop plans) and with the result you would divide it by 2 or 3 to show the recommended number for the size of coop you would need.

The coop's run space should be at least 5+ square feet per bird.
