maturity age?

Donna Aug 26, 2015 05:39PM EDT

What does it mean in weeks when it says "early maturing" etc. What is the range of maturing in chickens. Is there a chart any place that shows in weeks when different types mature for egg laying and/or butchering?

Thanks

That is a great question and thank you for asking. We have created a guide to explain our classifications of breed maturity. This can be found on our Breed Characteristics Article-

Early to Mature – 15-18 weeks of age, Dual Purpose(Process for meat): 12-16 weeks
Moderately Early – 16-20 weeks of age, Dual Purpose(Process for meat): 15-20 weeks
Average – 17-25 weeks of age.
Slow – 25-30 weeks of age, Dual Purpose(Process for meat):25-30+ weeks
